Eco Friendly Guest House
What do we care about?
We care about the environment
Reduce to preserve:
Our eco-friendly approach
At Casa Babi, we’ve prioritized eco-friendly practices from the start to minimize our environmental impact.
Our focus is on reducing energy, packaging, and water use. That’s why our rooms rely on natural ventilation and quiet fans instead of A/C, and we use solar geysers for hot water. We water our garden every third day, which may leave it a bit sun-kissed.
You’ll also be offered a single napkin with a ring to use during your stay. These small steps may be unusual in hospitality, but we believe every action counts in protecting the planet.
We care about the people
Supporting the local community
Casa Babi is deeply rooted in the heart of the fishing village, and we believe in giving back to our community. We partner with a local nonprofit called PARCO, run by Mozambicans who live here and understand the needs of the town.
We believe education is essential for community development. That’s why, when you stay with us, you contribute directly, as we donate part of your nightly rate to the School Access Kits project. This project identifies families most in need and provides essentials (from uniforms to soap) so their kids can attend school.
In addition, we prioritize hiring local staff without prior experience, offering thorough training, a positive work environment, and competitive salaries. Our commitment is to not only support education but also create opportunities for meaningful employment in our community.
As little plastic as possible
Working towards a plastic free environment
Every day we work on eliminating single-use plastic across the guest house.
Toiletries and mosquito repellents are provided in reusable glass containers. Your rooms and meals water, sourced from our well and tested every six months, comes in glass bottles. We make our own sparkling water and offer isotherm bottles for walks. Cleaning products are homemade and stored in reusable spray bottles. In the kitchen, we use reusable covers instead of plastic film. Straws are bamboo or aluminum, and we bring our own bags and baskets when shopping.
Every small step reduces our environmental impact.
Sustainable sourcing
As local and organic as possible.
In our commitment to sustainability, we prioritize buying local and using organic products whenever possible in our restaurant.
Our fruits and vegetables are locally sourced or grown in our garden, and we make homemade jams and a delicious palm-oil-free chocolate spread. The bathroom toiletries are organic, and our mosquito repellent is homemade from essential oils—just as effective as chemical alternatives. We also use non-chemical cleaning products where we can, and our furniture is crafted by local artisans.
These efforts help us reduce our environmental impact while supporting the local community.
